HOME AUTOMATION

Basic Principle of Technology. Installation of home automation, either to control the system of air conditioning, lighting, security or any others, it helps those systems operated efficiently, properly and accurately. The data recorded are also used to benefit in an energy efficient home design.

Home Automation System. Computerised system controlling the operations of various systems will be equipped with the measuring cable to record the data from each part of the house for operation control of the systems as.
  1. Temperature measurement at each point, either internal and external of the house. Measure also the temperature inside the material by degree of depth, especially, the external wall, to inspect the heat transfer through the thick layer of material Besides, the temperature of building envelope, both internal and external, will also be measured for evaluating the building heat transfer values at different environment conditions. Controlling the windows/ doors open-close and equipment switch on-off, including the ventilation fan in case the weather ndition facilitates (lower enthalpy of external than internal ana at relative humidity lower than 75 %), the door which is the airflow in-out channel will be opened auto¬matically.
  4. Warning system comprises of a magnet control at every door and window, for inspecting the open-close condition and signal to the control system and an aaditional system to sensor the movement during the time of no living creatures possibly occur.
  5. Control the air conditioning system, is an operation control by using the VAV (Variable Air Volume) system that control the air supply with the cool air varied with the actual cooling load.
  6. Underground cool air piping system, functions in controlling a valve to open-close the air supply duct. In case the temperature inside air duct is sufficient cool, a control valve will open the duct at side of building internal to let the air sucked and passing through the duct to cool down before returning to the building.
  7. Other warning systems, ex: a gas running out warning system, an automatic lawn watering system, a switch on-off control system for lighting and electric appliances, etc.

Basic Principle of Technology. Energy efficient appliance is a device consuming less electric current or is the high efficiency equipment. If it is an air conditioner, it refers to the less electrical energy it used for more cooling it operated. In case it is the lighting system, it means the lamp quality to emit more light by using less electrical energy. And for re- frigeration, it refers to the refrigeration capably generate the cooling as required by less electricity consumed. Additionally, for each appliance to be selected, should compare with the equal size appliance but minimal consuming of electricity. Otherwise, consider its label indicating the efficiency grade, issued by EGAT, the Electricity Generating authority of Thailand. The label No. 5 will be of the highest efficiency appliance.

Energy efficient home is another option for conserving the natural environment by utlising the limited and non-alternative energy resource at cost effectively while completely meet the demand and the value presently. This is focussed on a study and analysis the concept to apply the hot and humid weather condition integrated with advanced technology and other related factors to create the proper architect suitably with the hot and humid zone of Thailand. By applying the methodology that capably save energy for several times more than the typical houses that benefits to better life quality at not expensive cost compared to the house with quasi/similar quality.

Design Concept of Energy Efficient Home
  1. Selecting the factors related the building location, i.e. using the factors related to building location for the cooler house surroundings.
  2. Selecting the building location and direction, i.e. creating the cool surroundings to reduce the difference of external and internal temperature that is to block the external heat gain at maximum This includes the design for fenestration and controlling the air infiltration.
  3. Consideration on the design and selection of building envelope, i.e. selecting the wall system that well capably prevent the heat and moisture., due to each type of material use will be found of much differentiate for analysis.
  4. Consideration on system selection installing inside the building, i.e. selecting the materials with minimal moisture and thermal storage, ex: shining surface material, lightweight material together with select using the furniture and decoration as necessary, and selecting the lightweight and moisture unabsorbed material. As for equipment, select using the high efficiency and less energy consuming appliances.
  5. The wishing building, the house with the above design concept will not yet completely control the environment condition, thus it may not possibly avoid using the air conditioner However, the building design with the above concept will require only the small use of air conditioner.

ELECTRICITY FROM PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM

I Basic Principle of Technology. Photovoltaic (PV) cell or Solar cell, as an electronic invention made of semi conductor, it converts sunlight directly into electricity as for a direct current.

Solar cell is a power generating equipment requires no fuels except for daylight from free solar energy, emits no pollution. PV equipment and system has no moving parts thus results in no wear and tear problem or in maintenance as required by other power generation systems, such as diesel power generation. Additionally, the lightweight of solar cell makes the best of a rated power output per weight.
  1. The PV power system on the house roof consists of a panel of PV array mounting on the roof and inverter The principle of system operation is as follows :When the solar cells in PV panel mounted on the roof are exposed to sunlight, electrical charges are generated, and all solar cells will generate DC (Direct Current) electricity passing a control system to inverter.
  2. An Inverter will convert the DC to AC electricity and then supply to the power system of a house.
  3. During the time of insufficient radiation intensity or using of appliances at higher wattage than the watts generated from solar cells, the system will be compensated by the PEA grid power supply to operate the electrical appliances.
Applications. Electricity generation from the rooftop PV system is suitable for the house owner who wishes to ultilise the renewable power generation in supplement alternatively with the lo¬cal power grid system from electricity ultility.
